Garioch Heritage Centre
Garioch Heritage Centre houses the collections of Garioch Heritage Society, including artefacts and information relating to the history of the Garioch from its earliest times to the present day, which is available for the public to view.
There is a gift shop, café and activities to amuse younger visitors. Visitors can enjoy a guided tour by experienced volunteers and hear their stories of growing up in the Garioch. The centre's reading area provides a space to research local history or to peruse the Societies’ extensive collection of photographs and archive material.
Entry is free but donations are gratefully received by the organisation.
The Heritage Centre project has been feasible due to a successful £466,000 award from the Scottish Land Fund.
The Role of The Garioch Partnership
The Garioch Partnership was able to support the Garioch Heritage Centre with the Scottish Land Fund bid, helping towards its success.
Involvement included support with community engagement events ahead of the bid; providing a referee for application; and facilitating contact with Calum at Scottish Land Fund.
The Garioch Partnership also worked with Garioch Heritage Centre and Scottish Land Fund to help bridge any gaps, to ensure the application was a success.
Helped was also given to the group to get the organisational structure right, as well as the provision of wider general help and support.
Testimonial
Community ownership will secure our long-term future and maintain public access to a nationally important listed building which played a pivotal role in the development of the town.
The Garioch Partnership, Inverurie Business Association, and We Are Inverurie, in particular, helped us to demonstrate widespread community support and community benefit from the project.
The Garioch Partnership was most helpful in our Scottish Land Fund application from the outset, providing advice on our proposed community buy out and facilitating two initial public meetings.
